Over Expression of the Fatty Acid Synthase Is a Strong Predictor of Poor Prognosis and Contributes to Glucocorticoid Resistance in B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

چکیده
Evolution of multiagent chemotherapy and independent risk factors have improved survival rates approximately 80% in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Although, 20-30% of patients will be relapsed within the treatment process1. Outcome assessment based on risk factors could remarkably help to prevent relapse at this malignancy2. Hence, ALL patients based on risk factors such as age, white blood cell count, cytogenetic abnormalities, response to glucocorticoids and PCR-based and flow cytometric MRD (minimal residual disease) are divided into highrisk and low-risk groups3. Response to glucocorticoids is considered as a strongest independent factor in predicting ALL patient outcome4. Therefore, identification of glucocorticoid resistance markers is the beneficial tools for improvement of prognostic and diagnostic strategies in this malignancy.

Characterization of Immunophenotypic Aberrancies in Adult and Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: Lessons from Regional Variation
Background & Objective: Although the antigen expression patterns of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are well known, this study attempted to evaluate commonly used immune markers for immunophenotyping of acute leukemia to set the minimum of necessary diagnostic panels by flow cytometry. Methods: This study evaluated 89 patients referred from all over th...
متن کاملMicroRNAs as a New Molecular Biomarker for Diagnosis and Prognosis of T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL): A Systematic Review
MicroRNAs (miRNAs, miRs) are small endogenous non-coding RNAs that regulate the expression of protein-encoding genes at the post-transcriptional level. Several studies have described the role of miRNAs in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), including tumor suppressor and oncogenic miRNAs. Down-regulation of miRNA expression is a prominent feature of human malignancy. This down-regulati...
متن کاملSignificance of Cross Lineage Antigen Expression in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Background: Aberrant expression of cross-lineage antigens gives valuable insight into the diagnosis and prognosis of acute leukemia. In countries like India, cytogenetic tests are widely accessible. Exploring the prognostic value of an accessible test is of great importance. Therefore, establishing a population-specific immunophenotype database will enable to design an antibody panel equipped t...
متن کاملExpression Analysis of Foxo3a Gene in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Southern Iranian Population
Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common childhood cancer with a peak incidence in children from 2-5 years old, might be associated with poor prognosis and resistance to therapy in specific cytogenetic backgrounds. FoxO3a, a member of the forkhead class ‘O’ (FoxO) transcription factors, is a main downstream target of PI3K/AKT pathway which regulates different ...
متن کاملRare Absence of CD79alpha in B-ALLs is not Associated with Altered Prognosis
Background: The diagnosis of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) on the basis of the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations in 2016 requires the expression of CD19 with CD79a (CD79a), cCD22 and CD10. CD79a is an integral B cell antigen expressed at all stages. Its absence in B-ALL has only been rarely reported. In this study, we described three cases of B-ALL showing complete l...
